ফরহাদ ভাই কবিতায় লিখেছিলেন, "আমি মরতে ভয় পাই না, কিন্তু গুম হয়ে যেতে খুব ভয় লাগে"। বাংলাদেশের কবি প্রাবন্ধিক দার্শনিক ফরহাদ মজহার, আমার ফরহাদ ভাই অপহৃত। কে অপহরণ করেছে জানিনা কিন্তু অনুমান করতে পারি কারা এটা ঘটাতে পারে। এটা নিছক কোন ছিঁচকে সন্ত্রাসীর কাজ নয়। বাংলাদেশের ফ্যাসিস্ট রূপান্তরের বিরুদ্ধে ভারতের আগ্রাসনের বিরুদ্ধে শিরদাঁড়া উঁচু করে যেই একমাত্র বুদ্ধিজীবী দেশবাসীর সামনে আশার আলো হয়ে দাঁড়িয়ে ছিলেন তাঁকেও সম্ভবত স্তব্ধ করে দেয়া হল। আমি বলতাম, তিনি বাঙালির শ্রেষ্ঠ মনীষা। অসংখ্য মানুষের ভালবাসায় সিক্ত ছিলেন যেই ফরহাদ ভাই, অথচ তাঁকেও আমরা রক্ষা করতে পারলাম না।

ফরহাদ ভাইকে খুঁজে বের করে অক্ষত ফেরত দিতে জাতীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক সকল সংস্থার দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করে বলতে চাই অব্যাহতভাবে বাংলাদেশে ভিন্নমতাবলম্বীদের গুম অপহরণ ও খুনের যেই সংস্কৃতি চলছে কয়েক বছর ধরে তা এমনই অবস্থায় পৌছেছে

যে আজকে ফরহাদ মজহারের মতো একজন বর্ষীয়ান কবি ও দার্শনিককেও গুম হতে হল।

ফরহাদ ভাইয়ের টেলিফোন ট্র্যাক করে তাকে প্রথমে মানিকগঞ্জ তারপরে মাগুরায় পাওয়া গেছে, তার মানে অপহরণকারীরা তাকে নিয়ে সীমান্তের দিকে অগ্রসর হচ্ছে। আমরা দেখেছি সুখরঞ্জন বালীকে এইভাবেই অপহরণ করে ভারতের কারাগারে আটক রাখা হয়েছে, এভাবেই বিএনপির সালাউদ্দিনকে শিলং এ পাওয়া গেছে। ফরহাদ ভাইকেও হয়তো কোন অজানা গন্তব্যে নিয়ে যাওয়া হচ্ছে কিনা কে জানে?

বাংলাদেশের জন্য বুদ্ধিজীবী নিধন নতুন কিছু নয়। বাংলাদেশ রাষ্ট্রের জন্মের সাথে জড়িয়ে আছে বুদ্ধিজীবী নিধনের বেদনাদায়ক ইতিহাস। বিজয়ের ঠিক আগেই আসে ১৪ই ডিসেম্বর। বারেবারে ইতিহাসের পুনরাবৃত্তি হয়।

ফরহাদ ভাই সমস্ত দুঃস্বপ্নকে পিছনে ফেলে নিরাপদে সুস্থ্য দেহে ফিরে আসুন এই কামনা করি। সীমান্তে সকল জনতাকে সতর্ক থাকতে অনুরোধ করছি যেন অপহরণকারীরা ফরহাদ ভাইকে সীমান্ত পেরিয়ে ভারতে নিয়ে যেতে না পারে।



Bangladesh's noted poet, author, philosopher and rights activist Farhad Mazhar once wrote in a poem: "I am not afraid of death. But, I am very scared of being disappeared." Farhad Mazhar has been abducted when he was out for a walk near his home in Dhaka this morning. We can imagine who might have abducted him. We are sure that ordinary criminals who abduct people for ransom are not behind this incident. As a top intellectual he has stood against Bangladesh's turn to fascism. He was most vocal among the Bangladeshi intelligentsia which has been protesting India's aggressive interferences in Bangladesh’s domestic affairs. Perhaps he has been abducted in an action to put a halt on his writing. I call him one of wisest men ever born in this country. For tens or hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshis he is their dear Farhadbhai. It’s very sad that we have not been able save him.

We are seeking help from national and international agencies for the safe return of Farhadbhai. The abduction of the septuagenarian shows that the heinous culture of abduction, disappearance and killing of those, who are dissenting from the government, is still going on in Bangladesh.

Police tracked Farhad bhai’s mobile phone to Manikganj and then Magura, they said. It seems the abductors are taking him towards the border. We saw how Sukhranjan Bali was abducted and taken across the border before he was found in an Indian prison. BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed was located in Shillong in India in a near-similar way, after being abducted in Bangladesh. Is Farhad bhai too being carried to an unknown destination outside Bangladesh?

Intellectuals have long been targeted in Bangladesh. The birth of this country was associated with the painful history of mass killing of intellectuals. History seems being repeated in Bangladesh.

Let us pray for Farhad bhai’s safe return to his home. And, I am requesting all citizens, including security personnel, to stay alert around the border so that Farhad bhai’s abductors cannot take him to India. (Collected from Pinaki Bhattacharya)
